A New Start, A New Year (Isaiah 43: 18 19)


“I commend you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church in Cenchrea. I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been a great help to many people including me. ” Romans 16:1-2A deaconess, “diakonia” (Greek term meaning servant) is a saved, sanctified woman called by God. She is appointed by the Pastor and the church body to minister to the body of Christ in general and women in particular in Christian love.

The purpose of this ministry is to serve God’s people through spiritual care and works of mercy, such as ministering to both the spiritual and physical needs of our women, the very young down to our senior members.   Deaconesses are further called to assist and support the pastor and deacons in the care of the Communion elements, baptismal services (preparing candidates), home going services, and other functions where needed.


The goals of the Deaconess Ministry are:To encourage and promote spirituality throughout the body of ChristTo be faithful and steadfast in learning and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.To continue to serve with humility, as we become self-sacrificing vessels, set aside for the Master’s use


The objectives of the Deaconess Ministry are:To serve as instruments of healing, to aid those who are sick and shut-in and those in distressTo encourage our “New Members” after orientation to attend the teaching arms of the churchTo provide spiritual, social and moral support to all the members of The Word of God Baptist Church
